Health & Safety

Managing property brings responsibilities, risks and difficult decisions.

Whether you are responsible for a leisure property, a residential block or a portfolio of premises, it can be difficult to know whether your existing health & safety arrangements are appropriate, whether important issues have been overlooked, or what action should be taken when a problem arises.

An independent review can provide a fresh perspective.

To help those responsible identify potential areas of risk, understand where improvements may be appropriate, and take sensible, proportionate action.

Support when you need it

One-Off Health & Safety Reviews

A discreet, independent review of a property or business, looking at relevant health & safety arrangements and identifying areas that may warrant attention.

A written report can provide a clear record of observations, potential concerns and practical recommendations.

Reactive Advice

Sometimes an issue has already arisen and you simply need an independent view.

Whether it is a health & safety concern, an incident, a contractor issue or uncertainty about what should happen next, independent advice can help you consider the situation and appropriate next steps.

Leisure Sector

Practical health & safety advice for businesses and property owners operating leisure premises.

The objective is to help identify potential risks associated with the premises, its operation, contractors and the people using or working within it.

Residential Blocks of Flats

Support for owners, managing agents and those responsible for residential blocks and communal areas.

The review can consider the practical management of health & safety responsibilities, including areas where risks may arise from the building, its use, contractors or maintenance activities.

38

years in property management and contracting

Health & safety does not exist in isolation.

It sits alongside property maintenance, contractors, budgets, tenants, customers, employees, managing agents and the day-to-day realities of running buildings and businesses.

With 38 years' experience in the property management and contracting sector, the approach is based on practical experience of those realities.

The purpose is not to create unnecessary bureaucracy.

It is to help responsible people understand their potential exposure, identify weaknesses in existing arrangements and consider practical and proportionate improvements.

Experience supported by formal study

NEBOSH General Certificate examination

Alongside 38 years of practical experience in the property management and contracting sector, I have successfully passed the NEBOSH General Certificate examination and am currently completing the remaining assessment required for the full qualification.

This study has provided additional knowledge of health & safety management, risk assessment and the identification and control of workplace hazards, complementing many years of practical experience within the property and contracting sectors.

Protecting your business and your reputation

Good health & safety management is about more than meeting a requirement.

Where something goes wrong, the consequences can extend beyond the immediate incident.

Depending on the circumstances, inadequate arrangements can expose individuals and businesses to:

  • Civil claims and financial loss
  • Business disruption
  • Reputational damage
  • Regulatory investigation and enforcement
  • Potential personal consequences for those with health & safety responsibilities

A clear and independent review can also provide useful evidence of the steps being taken to identify and manage risks.

Where appropriate, having a clearer understanding of the risks and the measures being taken to address them can also assist discussions with insurers and other professional advisers.

Tailored to your situation

Not every business needs an ongoing consultancy arrangement.

Sometimes you need a one-off independent review.

Sometimes you need advice on a particular issue that has already arisen.

The service is designed to provide support when you need it, without unnecessary ongoing commitments.

Confidentiality, discretion and practical advice are central to the approach.

Let's discuss your health & safety concern.

If you are responsible for a property or business and have a health & safety concern you'd like to discuss, an initial conversation can help establish whether an independent review or reactive advice would be appropriate.
